Stay and Gaze
Celebrating Dark Skies Week
With no light pollution, the Trefeddian hotel in Aberdovey is the perfect place to celebrate Dark Skies Week. Once the sun goes down over the sea in February, it's a fantastic opportunity to experience the most exceptional dark skies that you can imagine.
Welsh Dark Skies Week runs from 9th-18th February. This will be the fourth year that Wales has held its own Dark Skies Week and many subsquent events take place across the country in celebration. These events include star gazing, storytelling, organised walks and dark sky activities. This initiative brings together all of the designated landscapes in Wales and unites the three National Parks of Eryri, Bannau Brycheiniog and Pembrokeshire, along with five areas of outstanding national beauty across Wales.
Dark Skies Week aims to raise awareness about reducing light pollution, the role of dark skies in biodiversity, human health, energy conservation, heritage prevention and astronomy. Dark skies are also intended to protect wildlife and the climate. There are many events being held this week, both on-site and online across all eight locations.
At the Trefeddian, we are blessed with very low levels of light pollution. On a clear night, you can see a sky full of stars. When planets align, they are very visible and, twice last year, we were extremely lucky to experience an amazing Aurora Borealis in Aberdyfi, as shown in some fantastic photos taken by our staff!
So wrap up warm, sit yourself down outside with a drink and gaze up at the sky above to enjoy a beautiful, starry night!
