By road (all times and distances are approximate)

From Chester - 70 miles, 1¾ hours approximately

  • From the A55 take the A5104 to Bala, via the A5 and the A494
  • Continue on the A494 through Bala to Dolgellau
  • At Dolgellau take the A470 signed to Machynlleth
  • After 3 miles, at Cross Foxes Inn, turn right onto A487
  • After 6 miles, at bottom of hill, turn right onto B4405 to Tywyn
  • At Bryncrug turn left onto A493 to Tywyn
  • Stay on A493, go through Tywyn to Aberdyfi (Aberdovey)
  • 4 miles from Tywyn, on the left hand side of the road is a terrace of houses
  • The hotel entrance is immediately after the terrace, marked by a large blue sign on the left


From Shrewsbury - 70 miles, 1¾ hours approximately

  • From the A5 take the A458 to Welshpool
  • Continue on the A458, signed to Machynlleth
  • At roundabout at Mallwyd, turn left onto A470, signed to Machynlleth
  • At roundabout at Cemmaes Road turn right onto A489 signed to Machynlleth
  • At clock tower at Machynlleth turn right, onto A487, signed to Dolgellau
  • After ½ mile, just after bridge over the river, turn left onto A493, signed to Aberdyfi
  • Stay on the A493 and drive through the village of Aberdyfi
  • Hotel is on the far side of the village, ¼ mile after the speed restrictions for the village end on the right hand side of the road, marked by a large blue sign


From Hereford - 85 miles, 2 hours

  • Take the A438 and A4111 to Kington
  • At Kington take the A44 to Rhayader
  • At Rhayader take the A470 north via Llanidloes
  • Stay on the A470, and 8 miles after Llanidloes, immediately after the level crossing turn left, still on the A470 and continue onto Cemmaes Road
  • At roundabout at Cemmaes Road go straight over onto A489 signed to Machynlleth
  • At clock tower at Machynlleth turn right, onto A487, signed to Dolgellau
  • After ½ mile, just after bridge over the river, turn left onto A493, signed to Aberdyfi
  • Stay on the A493 and drive through the village of Aberdyfi

By rail

Coming by rail, your destination is Aberdyfi train station. Trains on this line come via Shrewsbury and the journey from Shrewsbury takes approximately 2 ¼ hours.

If coming by train, we suggest that you book a taxi to meet you at the station and bring you to the hotel.

Manchester International Airport (110 miles) and Birmingham International Airport (125 miles) are the two nearest international airports, both of which have a rail link. Car hire is available at both.

The hotel is approximately 3 hours from both of these airports by car.

John Lennon Airport, Liverpool, and Bristol Airport also serve the area and, by car, are 2 ½ hours and 4 hours away respectively.
